ADOPT-A-PLOT FAQ's

What kind of plants should I choose?
When choosing plants for your plot, start by considering how much sunlight your area receives throughout the day. A general description is provided for each plot, but you’re encouraged to observe your plot before selecting plants.
We encourage you to include Michigan native species whenever possible--they’re hardy, low-maintenance, and provide food and shelter for local pollinators. You’ll also get the best results by mixing things up! Use a variety of plant types—flowers, grasses, and groundcovers—and combine perennials that return each year with annuals that add fresh color and variety each season.
A diverse mix of plants keeps your garden beautiful, resilient, and buzzing with life all season long.

What will happen to the perennials I’ve planted in the future?
Perennials are long-lasting plants that return year after year. Once you plant a perennial in your adopted plot, it becomes part of NTAL's landscape and may only be removed or relocated by library staff.

I put a lot of work into this plot; will I be automatically assigned to the same plot next season?
Not necessarily. NTAL will strive to make plot assignments that benefit the entire community. Assignments will be made considering all available information.

What support is provided by NTAL?
NTAL will provide access to our water supply, mulch, and landscaping support on Opening Day.
