Groomes Bathing Beach, located on East Shore Drive on the northeastern side of Whitmore Lake was for many years a popular swimming and picnic destination.  It was developed as a beach resort around 1919 by Samuel W. & Rosaltha Groomes and their sons, and operated by the Groomes family for many years.  It closed in 1966, and the property was subdivided and now contains private homes.  Below is a collection of photos, advertisements and news clippings about Groomes Beach.
