About Summer Reading Club

We are so excited to have you as part of Camp NTAL, our Summer Reading Club theme this year. We want to make sure you all get a chance to enjoy some of our favorite activities while practicing social distancing guidelines. This year we are offering a virtual and contact-less hybrid program! Scroll down for information on all of our Summer Reading Club activities.

How can my family participate?

Summer Reading Club isn't just for children - it's for everyone, so there are many ways to participate! Here's how to register to be a part of this fun annual tradition:

  • Tracking your family's reading progress just went virtual! We are using a platform called Beanstack, which is designed for participation in virtual reading challenges and allows you to track all sorts of insights on reading habits. Beanstack offers two ways to register on-line, either through the Library’s Camp NTAL Summer Reading Club platform or by downloading Beanstack’s mobile app, Beanstack Tracker, and finding Northfield Township Area Library in the Find Your School or Library option.  Once you choose your method of registration, follow the step-by-step instructions to complete the sign up process.

  •  To register by phone, please call our circulation desk at (734) 449-0066. Utilizing our new curbside pick-up procedure, we will be distributing Summer Reading Club packets that contain a welcome letter, reading logs, bingo sheets, and other fun activities you can do from home.

What and when are the activities?

Because of social distancing guidelines and the Library's phased reopening plan, Summer Reading Club this year largely takes place online through the Beanstack platform and/or with kits to take home using our curbside pick-up procedure.  Printed directions will be provided in the kits.
A full calendar with dates and weekly activities can be viewed here: Camp NTAL Calendar

Crafternoons for Kids: Tuesdays July 7 - 28
What would summer be without Crafternoons? Don't worry, no need to find out! This year we are making Crafternoons an at-home Summer Reading Club activity! Crafternoon kits will be provided, but some household items may be required.  If you don't have on-line access, the directions will be in your Crafternoon kit, which can be picked up using our curbside pick-up procedure. If you are using Beanstack to track your Camp NTAL progress, be sure to mark that you have earned your badge for each Crafternoon kit you complete.

What are the prizes and how do I win them?

Every Patron registered for Summer Reading Club will be entered into our prize raffle for a chance to win an awesome prize. Winners will be announced on Friday, August 14. This year, winners will select their prize of choice when they pick up their prize on Monday, August 17. Prizes will be chosen on a first-come-first-served basis.

Why is summer reading important?

Summer slide is an issue impacting students of all ages. On average, students lose up to two months of reading skills over summer vacation and one month of overall education. Summer reading programs like our Summer Reading Club may help prevent this gap from happening. By reading 2-3 hours a week, only 25 minutes per day, you can prevent the summer slide. Our Summer Reading Club encourages reading and learning to help prepare students for the upcoming school year.
